WLO family grows bigger!

It is always a pleasure to see how our community grow, and with it our opportunities to make a positive impact on leisure development around the world! In this special issue, the last of the year, we want to give a shout-out to the people and organizations that have joined us as members or through their participation in different WLO initiatives. They bring new knowledge and energy to the network, and we are thrilled to learned from and work with them.

In October 2022 we announced the new composition of the Editorial Board of the World Leisure Journal. We welcome diverse and truly global Editorial Board with members based in over 20 countries. Under the leadership of the newly appointed Editor-in-Chief, Dr. Sandro Carnicelli, members of the Editorial Board undertake a key role to maintain the high standards and academic excellence of our publication and delivering the strategic plan of the journal. We are delighted to initiate this new period of collaboration and jointly achieve our aim to stimulate and communicate research, theory and critical thought in regard to all forms of leisure through their diverse disciplinary perspectives.

A special shout-out goes to Minke Ypma, a student at World Leisure Center of Excellence (WLCE) Breda University of Applied Sciences, who interned with us during the past few months at the WLO Secretariat in Bilbao. We are happy to welcome and contribution to the educational path of future young professional, and we are sure Minke will become an engaged WLO alumnae!

Finally, in the last quarter of 2022, we have also welcome two new institutional members! One of them is the Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism Management at North Carolina State University, United States. Founded in 1947, the Department is dedicated to improving the health and well-being of communities around the world by promoting active lifestyles and fostering positive connections between people and nature. We are extremely happy to enlarge the presence of Higher Education Institutions in our network, which very significantly contribute to our work in all areas and specially in the development of the leisure studies field through the promotion of research and knowledge transfer. The second institutional member that joined us is Zhejiang Shenhe Sports Culture Development Co., Ltd., from Qiantang New District, in Hangzhou, China. The collaboration with this recreation company will open new opportunities for our work in connecting the leisure field with the leisure industry.
