Organized by the Turkish Recreation Studies and Research Association, the 4th International Recreation and Sports Management Congress was held in Antalya, Turkey, on May 17-20, 2023, with the support of the World Leisure Organization (WLO) through its naming rights programme. The main theme of the congress was “Recreation and sports management in the rehabilitation process” and the content of the symposiums was planned accordingly.
The Congress provided a platform for exchange and deliberation of issues related to leisure and recreation and ways through which they can contribute to people’s quality of life and their well-being. It encompassed themes linked to the benefits of leisure, recreation and sports, how to best disseminate them and encourage access of all people so as to fulfil the right for leisure for all which is at the core or WLO mission.
Former WLO Board member, and Co-Chair of Leisure and Education and Leisure and Human Rights Special Interest Groups, Dr. Atara Sivan, attended the Congress as an invited keynote speaker. She gave a presentation about WLO, and her keynote was devoted to “Leisure Education and Human Rights: From Advocacy to Practice” where she emphasized the importance of leisure, recreation, and sports for well-being and the need for social inclusion and leisure education for all.
Also, other keynotes presentations were: Discovering the Competencies Needed in Recreation and Sport Environments: Forty Years of Research and Replication; Improving Quality of Life through Leisure Services; and Urban Parks, Recreation and Public Health.
