The webinar is held under the auspices of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) of the United Nations.

Event Details:

  • Date: Tuesday, July 16, 2024
  • Time: from 9pm to 10pm CEST (Bilbao) || from 3pm to 4pm EDT (New York)

Join us as we delve into the critical role of leisure in alleviating poverty and advancing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. We will explore how leisure can be integrated into poverty alleviation strategies, successful examples of leisure activities that have positively impacted communities, the challenges faced by communities in implementing leisure-based interventions, and strategies to overcome obstacles and ensure accessibility and benefits for all. The importance of multi-stakeholder partnerships in promoting leisure-based poverty reduction will also be discussed.

We are honored to have an esteemed panel of experts who will share their insights and experiences:

  • Rasul Mowatt (World Leisure Organization), Parks, Recreation and Tourism Management, North Carolina State University, United States
  • Jackie Oncescu (Canadian Association of Leisure Studies), Faculty of Kinesiology, University of New Brunswick, Canada
