The World Leisure Organization (WLO) was pleased to be represented by Dr. Mireia Iglesias at the conversational event ‘Recreación: Su promoción en Costa Rica y el mundo’, held at the Universidad de Iberoamérica (UNIBE) in Tibás, Costa Rica.
The event was organized through the program Una Ventana para el Pueblo by the Red Costarricense de Actividad Física y Salud de Tibás (RECAFIS) and the Asociación Costarricense de Profesionales en Recreación (ACPRE), and hosted by UNIBE.
Through presentations and open discussions, participants explored the importance of strengthening the recreation profession in Costa Rica and across the region. The exchange highlighted both the need for continued professionalization and the importance of supportive policies, institutions, and local leadership in creating the conditions for the field to grow.
The conversations also demonstrated the strong commitment and enthusiasm of the local community. Participants shared experiences, challenges, and opportunities, reinforcing the role of recreation as a powerful tool for well-being, social connection, inclusion, and community development.
WLO extends its sincere thanks to its long-standing local member M.Rec. María Jenkins for helping make this exchange possible, as well as Dr. Carmen Salazar for her continued support and contribution to the professionalization of recreation in Costa Rica and the wider region.
