Position Announcements

There are currently three voluntary positions available at the World Leisure Organization:

Attorney to the Board of Directors

Program Manager for Chapters and Affiliates

Program Manager for Student Services

Attorney to the Board of Directors

The voluntary position of attorney to the World Leisure Organization's Board of Directors involves providing direct legal counsel and representation for the Board of Directors, Secretary General and staff on matters related to the work of the organization.

Requirements

  • a license to practice law
  • demonstrated experience in international law be sensitive to language and cultural differences
  • knowledge of contract, administrative and international law
  • personal and professional integrity
  • strong oral and written communications skills
  • knowledge of leisure, sport, and tourism
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Attend and provide legal advice at regular and special meetings of the Board as required
  • Prepare and render oral and /or written legal opinions upon request to Secretary General and Board of Directors
  • Provide legal assistance in the drafting of legal documents, policies, rules and regulations, resolutions, applications and all other legal or quasi-legal papers upon request
  • Advise the Board in all matters of a legal or technical nature relating to the interpretation of statutes, characters, ordinances and contracts
  • Review invitations to bids and participates in the decision making for such activities
  • Prepare and/or reviews all legal contracts
  • Serve as legal representative of the Board, its members, and/or staff in any judicial or administrative proceedings brought by or against the Board
  • Monitor and reviews changes in international law impacting on the work of the Organization
  • Provide periodic updates on Board policy
  • Review pending Board policy prior to formal adoption
  • Approve all contracts made by the Board prior to their execution by officers of the Board
  • Perform such other duties consistent with competence in the field of law as the Board or Secretary General may require

Appointment and Term

It is expected that a decision will be taken in August 2010, with duties to commence in September 2010.  The initial appointment shall be for five years. Re-appointment may follow a review by the World Leisure Organization's Board of Directors.

Program Manager for Chapters & Affiliates

The voluntary position of Program Manager/Chapters & Affiliates includes providing direction, oversight and administrative guidance and support to the World Leisure Chapters and Affiliates program.

Requirements

  • the skills, disposition and enthusiasm as well as knowledge of contemporary management and association practices
  • membership in the World Leisure Organization
  • experience as a practicing professional, educator, or citizen with a focus on leisure, tourism, sport or related areas
  • knowledge of leisure, sport, and tourism
  • general knowledge of international affairs
Duties and Responsibilities
  • provide leadership in the form of guidance and motivation to the World Leisure Chapters & Affiliates
  • maintain ongoing communications with chapters and affiliates
  • develop new World Leisure Chapters & Affiliates based on need
  • establish and monitor a program of performance
  • provide liaison with the World Leisure Secretariat
  • develop an annual action plan
  • report progress to the Secretary General, and World Leisure Board of Directors

Program Manager for Student Services

The voluntary position of Program Manager/Student Services includes providing direction, oversight and administrative guidance and support to programs and services directed toward college and university students worldwide.

Requirements

  • leadership, communication, creativity, innovation, enthusiasm, and networking ability as well as the capability of inspiring students and faculty membership in the World Leisure Organization
  • knowledge of contemporary management and association practices
  • membership in the World Leisure Organization; graduate student or faculty member with a focus on leisure, tourism, sport or related areas
  • general knowledge of international affairs
  • knowledge of methods and procedures for planning, organizing, promoting and implementing international Student Services Programs
  • knowledge of methods and procedures for planning, organizing, promoting and implementing congresses, conferences, forums, summits and other specialized programs
  • an understanding of and sensitivity to cultural diversity
Duties and Responsibilities
  • provide leadership to World Leisure college and university student services and programs maintain ongoing communications with chapters and affiliates
  • develop and maintain a database of college and university programs including key faculty and student leaders
  • develop and maintain a network connecting college and university faculty and students, especially institutions sponsoring World Leisure Student Chapters provide liaison with the World Leisure Secretariat
  • provide oversight including recruitment and support to World Leisure Student Chapter Programs
  • develop a biennial program for students in conjunction with World Leisure Congresses
  • establish and monitor World Leisure Student Chapters at WLCE
  • provide liaison between college and university faculty and students with the World Leisure Secretariat
  • develop an annual action plan
  • report progress to the Secretary General, and World Leisure Board of Directors
