Global Consultations Project on Children's Right to Play
December 2, 2009
To Members of Organizations Supporting IPA's Request for
a General Comment on article 31 of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child
Further to our update letter dated August 5th, we are pleased to inform you that plans for the Global Consultations Project on Children's Right to Play are unfolding on target!
The eight Consultation sites were selected on the basis of
- global representation (to the extent possible within the scope of the project)
- IPA member support 'on the ground'
- sites supported by Childwatch International (and their participatory research program)
They are:
- Johannesburg
- Nairobi
- Bangkok
- Tokyo
- Mexico
- Beirut
- Sofia
- Mumbai
The pilot consultation will take place in Johannesburg on *January 29th* after a day-long orientation session on the 28th. Facilitators from the eight sites have been invited to participate in these sessions and will then proceed to prepare for Consultations in their own countries.
The seven Consultations will take place between February and May, 2010. We will inform you of the dates of these when they are determined, so that representatives of your organizations will have the opportunity of attending them - if that is geographically possible.
I am enclosing, again, the two page summary of the project for your information and, if desired, circulation to interested groups.
Best wishes, and thank you for your words of encouragement and support!
