Mission Statement
The Research Commission of World Leisure is an international community of scholars, concerned with the local/global development and dissemination of quality research into all aspects of leisure.
Commission Objectives
Facilitate the development of the highest standard research and scholarship into all aspects of leisure.
Promote the training of highly skilled and imaginative researchers
Promote the highest standards of ethical behaviour among researchers in the leisure studies community
Facilitate international research collaboration on specific projects
Facilitate an active, two-way exchange of research knowledge between developed and developing countries by promoting research, particularly in such countries where leisure research has not yet gained momentum
Find meaningful ways in which professionals delivering leisure services can apply research in their professional activities, thus bridging the gap between theory and practice.
Encourage the exchange of research knowledge through international forums which are to be conducted in different countries, or via the Internet.
Promote the biennial World Leisure conference, assist in organising the conference Research Program, invite keynote speakers, and manage abstracts and papers to achieve the highest standards.
Develop a relationship between the Research Community of World Leisure and the World Leisure Association's WICE program in the Netherlands . This relationship is to be aimed at utilising the research skills of Research Commission members to further the work of WICE.
Develop connections with other Commissions within World Leisure, and related organisations outside of World Leisure (e.g. Research Committee 13 of the ISA, regional and national Leisure Studies Associations) in order to promote the aims of World Leisure and the Research Commission, and work on projects of mutual interest. |
